Thank you for visiting this web site. This site is intended to educate and empower the begriming Tango dancer, so that you can avoid the mistake I made. Dear God I made a lot of mistakes. Like a bull in a China shop. Costly mistakes. To become a really good tango dancer takes about ten years. So I am told. Five years if you are really good and dedicated. Maybe two years if you dance everyday for a couple of hours. But don't let that discourage you. You have to understand that Tango is a lifestyle. A social network where you meet and interact with people, whether to find a partner in marriage or appreciate the beauty of another man or a women. Flirt if you will. Nothing wrong with that.

You can dance the Tango whether you are happy or sad. Angry or depressed. That's the beauty of it. It's a dance of seduction, where two people make a connection for a three minute dance. Sometimes you will not make a connection. Most times you will. As a man you must lead it and as a women you must follow it. If the women tries to lead or the man does not lead it is a disaster. This is one of the most difficult aspect of the tango because women this day and age have are used to being in control and men have been ceding control for so long they have forgotten how to lead. But in Tango you must let the man lead. As men, you must lead. Take charge and lead with grace and style. You must be almost forceful, but not quite. Firm without being crude. And I think many of the ladies are also yearning for something. Allowing a man to lead. It's not easy but it will come to time. Ceding control.

One of the first things you must understand is that Argentinean Tango is not what not the show Tango you see on most TV shows. That is a very different kettle of fish. On a crowded dance floor there is no space for this. Tango is actually divided into three types. The Traditional Argentinean Tango, The Waltz Tango and the Milonga Tango. I personally love the Milonga style Tango which has a quicker tempo with simpler steps ideal for the crowded dance floor. What you will learn at the beginning is the traditional Argentinean Tango which has some very complicated steps and kicks, not all of them suitable for a crowded dance floor.

That's a quick introduction. You will find a wealth of information about Tango on this web site. Most of it researched and culled from other web sites. So use it wisely. Oh, a word of advise. Be nice to all other dancers as you learn. Men take four times as long to learn the Tango, simply because it takes that much effort to lead. So women who feel they are progressing much faster than the men, should heed to a word of warning. Eventually the man will catch up with you and pass you and if you have been unkind and unjust they will remember you. Pretty soon you will be dancing with yourself. So pay your dues and be nice. Don't be uptight!

On the whole the Tango scene in Los Angeles is composed of very nice people. It's a great way to meet new people, make business contacts, find a lover or just flirt. As long as you follow the rules and be humble they will welcome you with open arms. Good luck.
